04 September 2009

Sicily has taken top spot in Conde Nast Traveller's 'top 100' list for 2009. The list features the top scorers from its Readers' Travel Awards survey, irrespective of category.

The Italian island was given a score of 95.7 out of 100 and was followed by the Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur, India, which had a rating of 95.62 points.

Italy itself was the highest-ranked country, coming third in the magazine's top 100, while New Zealand and New York completed the top five.

In the individual sections of this year's Conde Nast Traveller reader awards, bmi was voted the top short-haul leisure carrier, while Virgin Atlantic had the highest score in the long-haul category.

Hubs in Asia dominated the airport section of the awards, with Beijing Capital International in China, Incheon in South Korea and Changi in Singapore winning the top three places.

Paris and Rome joined New York at the top of the international cities section of the awards, while in the countries category, top-rated Italy and New Zealand were followed by Turkey, Australia and France.
