Rome museum to host Edward Hopper exhibition

21 January 2010

A display featuring a selection of paintings by Edward Hopper will open at the Museo del Corso in Rome next month.

Art enthusiasts planning a trip to Italy's capital city will be able to see the exhibition from 16 February to 13 June.

The touring show, which will be based at the Palazzo Reale in Milan until 30 January, was arranged by Italian cultural authorities in collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.

Hopper is regarded as one of the 20th century's most respected and popular painters.

His pieces often featured solitary individuals in evocative American locations like beach houses and cafes, exploring themes such as the isolation and identity of the modern man.

The exhibition represents the entirety of Hopper's oeuvre through a number of significant works, from 1909's Summer Interior to A Woman in the Sun, painted in 1961.
